Hiking

A few Mondays ago I got to go hiking with the Primary School Children.  It was another beautiful day (October this year has been really great!!)  It was a long and pretty steep hike but the kids were good sports.

Once we got to the top everyone had some tea and then the kids played with the goats and on the playground.  Some people got a fire ready and then we all took turns cooking sausages over the fire.  After lunch we started the walk back down the mountain and headed back to school!  It was a great day!

Falling for Fall

For Kayla’s Birthday we hopped to spend sometime in the mountains.  As the weekend approached we had some hurdles to overcome booking a place but Adrian and Iza were on it and found us a great cottage in the mountains.  The colors were breathtaking and the cottage was adorable.

On the way we stopped along to road at a dam and the trees, the sun and the colors were unbelievable.  After I took “a few” pictures we preceded to the cabin.  For dinner we had chips, sausages, a LOT of oscypek (mountain cheese), and another apple pie.

After the fire died out a bit we went inside, played some games and headed off to bed.  In the morning we woke up bright and early, made eggs and bacon in pots and packed up.  On the way back to Bielsko we stopped in a town called Wisla.  I took a picture of this man asking for money for beer (at least he was honest) and guess what … we had more oscypek (if you haven’t already guessed we LOVE oscupek).

Later on we took a chair lift up Ustron.  Again the weather, colors and view were picturesque.   I got to experience alpine slides and then we rode back down.  Even thought we were close to Bielsko it seemed like a weekend away and it was great to spend tome with some awesome friends.

Teachers Day and the Military Base

Last Monday was Teacher Appreciation Day in Poland.  The fourth class and there teacher were in charge of putting together a performance for the rest of the school.  I am not completely sure what they were saying but I know that it was about the recipe for a perfect student.  They did an amazing job.  The presentation was set in the future and students dressed as robots.  It was really cute.  Then at the end they thanked all of the teachers and then translated the thank you into English for us so that was a thoughtful touch.

Then we were showered with flowers and chocolates.  It was incredible how generous the students and their parents were.  After the performance everyone got ready for a field trip to the Military Base.  It was a really gorgeous day so it was great to be outside but the whole field trip was a bit uncomfortable.

We walked around and attempted to keep all of the children together while booths with sniper guns, handguns and other various types, lured them.  All of these booths encouraging our “sweet” children to pick up the guns, look down the scope and inevitably point it at someone.  Therefore it ended up being a day where Kayla and I continually were taking the guns away from children and moving them to the next station as well as talking to them about why we don’t point guns at our friends.

After walking around to these booths the students got to go and try on drunk goggles.  The kids really enjoyed this and then we ended the trip waiting around a paved area for some people to parachute out of a plane.

Beginning of the Year

So I am a bit behind on blogging but this fall has gone so fast so far.  Once we arrived back in Poland everything just started so quickly but I now have a moment to blog.  I will just give you all a bit of the highlights and of course lots of pictures.  Good news Adrian was waiting for us at the airport when we got to Krakow so the flight was smooth and easy!

First we have a new roommate this year and her name is Kat.  She is from the UK and is a great girl.  We have enjoyed getting to know her and having someone else to hang around with.

One weekend we had a campfire at Adrian and Iza’s house. We got to have sausages and S’MORES!!!  It was a lot of fun.

Then we went to Krakow for a day just to show Kat a bit of the basics.   We got to tour the dragon’s den for the first time so that was exciting.  It is only open in the summer and so we hadn’t gotten a chance until a few weeks ago.  Besides that it was a pretty relaxed day.  Kat tried her first oscypek (Mountain Cheese) and we stumbled upon Pope John Paul’s house.

Then it was Kayla’s Birthday and I was a bit more punctual with the pie this year.  It has been really nice knowing what different things are at the store and where to buy various things.  In this picture it looks like the pie is on fire but it isn’t!!!

That is all for now!  I will blog again soon though.
